About our Pastor
Sonja King-Harris is a native of Columbus, Georgia. Her parents are Willie Lee King Sr., the Late Gloria King and Sherryl Harris King. She received her initial spiritual training at Peters Chapel A.M.E. church in Columbus, Georgia. In 1988 – 1989, Sonja understudies were completed at Albany State University. In 1993, Sonja King-Harris received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Columbus State University. On May 7, 2004, she received a Master of Arts in Practical Ministry: Counseling Ministry at Beacon University in Columbus, Georgia. On May 15, 2021, Sonja completed her Master of Arts in Religion at Baptist Missionary Association Theological Seminary in Jacksonville, Texas. Sonja traveled to West Africa preaching, lecturing, teaching, baptizing, encouraging and strengthening the faith of people across Nigeria. She served as the senior pastor at Mt. Zion in Buena Vista GA, senior pastor at Pitts Chapel in Midland, Ga. and is currently the Senior Pastor at Union Hill AME Church in Ellaville, GA. Sonja is also a prolific bible teacher who enjoys teaching. She provides Christian education and preparation for persons desiring to effectively function in the Body of Christ. She currently leads a weekly prayer and devotion call on Wednesday nights. She serves as a Registered Nurse that specializes in Peritoneal Dialysis/Hemodialysis and received the Learn Award for demonstrating nursing excellence with commitment to patients and teammates. She currently serves as the SWGAC WIM secretary and Eastern District Prayer Coordinator where she received the Golden Eagle Award. Sonja King-Harris partner in marriage for over 35 years, Willie James Harris Sr. They are the proud parents of two sons - Willie Harris JR, the Late Willie Lyles and two daughters– Bonita Allen, Breanna Harris. Sonja enjoys spending memorable moments with her four grandchildren, Asia Allen, India Allen, Madison Harris and Cordell Christopher. Pastor Sonja's favorite part about leading Union Hill AME Church is teaching the word of God. She also supports the summer feeding program to connect with and support the community outside of regular church services.
